Tried something in 1.4.7. " /tp 29999999 80 29999999 " in a single player world and flew around a bit to find some land. Ended up around X 30 million-something Z 30 million something, a bit more than the " /tp " command will accept. At first sight it looked like this ( click images for larger version ):
Nothing unusual so far, just a big ocean with an island on it. So I tried to hit some grass:

Interestingly enough nothing happened, looked like I was hitting through it or something. so I tried standing on the grass:

Could not stand on it either, fell right through. The underwater seemed weird as well:

One could say that the farlands still exists.
To confirm this, I went to some coordinates that are below the 30 million, this is what I found:

The farlands border ? Seems that light, collision, block interaction and mob spawning stop right there. The above screenshot is in the farlands. Now, i flew back to the non-farlands and noticed this:

Theres light and spawning. So my conclusion is that the farlands still do exist in some form. Seems that only graphics are rendered, and that light, spawning and block interaction just stop working after the 30 million X and Z coordinates.

The farlands don't exist in newer versions, that was just a precision error at the end of integer/floating point boundaries.

ts;du: An error occurred with the world.
It's the farlands. That's the maximum render distance in that direction. Or, it could just be from some lava that spawned in the ocean. It happens sometimes.
what?
