Hi, so I want to start a server during the summer but I have no idea what type of server I want to make. I like all types of servers. What type of servers do lots of people play on now? I know a while back it was the OP Prison servers now what is it? Seems like the OP Factions servers are making a come back is that the case?

I personally would like to see more anime based servers, something original. You would need a coder if you wanted a custom plugin or something, but even so, we lack those kinds of servers.. Now it's just PvP/Factions, Factions... AND PVP!!, PvP with a side of faction... Make something original, I'm sure people like myself would play on it
Whatever you think would be most interesting for players, and yourself. It all depends on what kind of servers you like and what kind of server you think you could make and do a successful job of keeping up, while making the players feel extra special and happy that they're playing on your server .
A theme? I'm not sure; most original themes will do fine.

What I'm asking is like do you know what kind of theme I should do for my upcoming server?
Try something... Clean, cooperative, and futuristic. Minimalist, yet enjoyable. Easy to get into. I might try something like that,
I would try maybe a survival world with towny and some other personal features, maybe have a special minigame only your server has or something like that.

If you're looking for popularity, try a variety of things. A multi-world would definitely be the kind of thing that you'd be looking for. It'd be a lot of hard work, though.

People need to stop focusing so much on what other people want, and more on what they think would be fun. If you make a server that YOU will like, you'll attract more players like you, making the experience much more enjoyable, overall.
A successful server gives people what they want to a certain extent. Go too far and it'll turn OP (and boring after a while). If you don't go far enough, it won't be too successful, so always make use of criticism and try to improve; it can always be better.

I get what both of you mean...in that kind of case, maybe brainstorm a few ideas that would probably be popular in the public, and then pick the idea you like, then punch a few personal likings of your own to it.

Let's not start cussing. What I mean is I'd like a server with a decent amount of players. I'm not looking for a ton. Like I said before I've had more then enough experience administrating empty servers and it just wastes time and money.
Not factions or minigames. 48% each... The last 4% is a unique idea different from the rest... usually. Aim for that 4%.
You should make a factions raiding server with the plugins mmsupernaturals and heroes.
