Hi I had a server that closed recently from lack of donations/players. I am currently getting ready to create a new, better server. What I really want to know is what do most people like to see in a server? Any kind of plugins you really like and most important what kind of theme would you like a server to be built off of. Thanks for your help!

No PvP servers are extremely hard to come by. Either not having PvP at all or having it confined to arenas with plugins to give rewards for wins is a lot more attractive to me than all the global PvP/faction servers out there. Also, having a block-logging plugin and some kind of land protection to prevent griefing would definately make a server I would be interested in visiting.

On the topic of absolutely unique servers that are very hard to come by, make a Wasteland server. I'm not talking about an RPG/Fallout 3 experience in Adventure Mode. Trees should be rare, the surface is all sand or dirt, there should be custom building or city generation with loot and supply spawns, perhaps a zombie horde plugin of some kind, and water is hard to find. If this server were made, I think it'd be a nice feature to use factions with the peaceful faction feature enabled as well as a plugin to toggle PvP for each player, so people who don't want to participate in PvP/Grief don't have to.

The no PvP does sound nice. I personally don't like pvp or what Iove is servers that have keep inventory on which we most likely will have instead of locked chests

Hehe true. Don't need to worry about that. Me and the other 2 in the youtueb channel that hosts it are 16-17

People can get along and agree with each other but still give the server a cultured, diverse feel.

Well, I personally quit Minecraft because it seems that attempting to make a unique-concept server doesn't attract players at all (maybe my server's weak specs was a factor, but I reckon that wouldn't utterly destroy it).

A lot are clinging on to the cliches such as pay-2-win Minigames and Factions. Those are good income sources and are very safe grounds if you wanna keep a server surviving. I also see many that are everything-in-one, and although I haven't personally seen one yet, I'm sure a few of these everything-in-ones have their own special concept hidden in them.

Don't ask for a "theme", I'd say. There's too much variation. Everybody has tastes.
If you want to be safe, follow the crowd and make a everything-in-one with every type of gameplay, every kind of theme, every kind of everything. It's expensive to set up and keep up, but you'll build a nice foundation for a long-lasting server. Feel free to put a pay-2-win concept if you are money-faced (no offence). But of course, feel free to accept donations with non-OP rewards if you need money to keep your server up.

But if you are fussy about your community, e.g. you don't want bots, hackers, griefers, PvP bullies and infinitely silent people, then it's not that simple. Usually the price for making the cliche servers is that you get exactly the community I stated above. Of course, plenty of exceptions, I've seen plenty of splendid communities in those kind of servers. But I'm just making a general stereotype.

^^ this space intentionally left blank

If you just want to survey us in general, I'll take a vote for a small server with a not-perfect-but-polite-and-mature community. I like a Desert or Taiga theme, although putting trees all over spawn will probably kick out all the players with low-spec computers. Also I am 100% against cliches, so please forbid any PvP bullies and forbid people from giving donations solely because they want the rewards. Players should DONATE, not BUY.

P.S. Edited tons of times, sorry for any confusion.

We did have a idea of a medieval theme with maybe 2 other smaller themes. That does seem the best way as you said to have more than one for different players. I still have a lot of time to build this I don't plan on opening the server until maybe at the beginning of the new year.
