Why are 1.5 textures not working?

I tried to update my texture packs to 1.5 by making them separate png files, (just like you are supposed to). When I try to click on the texture pack in the game, in won't load. I tried getting rid of some things, and what ended up making it able to run was deleting the folders for blocks and items in the "textures" folder. Does anyone know why this is happening?

you most likely did not name them the right things. however there is a program that dinnerbone made to change texture packs.
