Why does items flash when 2 or more is on it?

The title is the problem....
Its really annoying it keeps flashing for example i have 2 items and the number 2 keeps flashing white and green when in hotbar.
VERY ANNOYING PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! I AM USING 1.5
I have tried force update lots and deleting stuff from .minecraft that I don't need it still does not work please help anyone that would be nice if someone could
