Why do LAN worlds never work?
Me and my friend have been trying to make a LAN world. We're on the same wifi network, but when we click on multiplayer it doesn't go to the world. Why do they not work? Anyway I can fix this? Anyone having this problem too?

Woody239 is correct. I had this exact same problem, and that fixed it.
I usually don't see any LAN worlds in my server list, although lately that issue has been fixed.
But, yeah, find the hosts' local IP using ipconfig or by just looking at your chat when you open up a LAN world, then connect to that. The external IP is only used when you're outside of their local area network.

You could open up your cmd console and type ipconifg, have them type in the exact ip, then type a colon this ---> :
Afterwards type in the number it says on screen for the lan world that was opened.

Control Panel>System>Allow a Program Through Windows Firewall>Change Settings
Scroll down to where it says "Java" and make sure all the boxes have the check mark to the LEFT of them.
Do this on both computers.

i had this same problem i entered my brothers ip address(i was trying to join his game)and nothing worked at all i tried everything possible but nothing worked
In my opinion if you want a local server then setup a hamachi server. It's quite simple just make a server which can be downloaded of minecraft.net then in the server properties file just put where it says ip= with the ip on hamachi. Then when your friend joins you network on hamachi he puts the ip in and you can play together.
I have no clue. It's frustrating the heck out of me, also.
Try direct connecting to the IP. Just open the world up to LAN, then open your web browser, and type in "Whats My IP?" It should pop up as 192.___.___. Tell your friend to type that in in the direct connect, then they should be able to join .
My IP doesn't begin with 192. Is that bad?
No, it just means he has a different IP as you, and he probably thought since his begins with 192, everybody has an IP that starts with 192. Something like that.
You're all wrong. That is your external IP. A LAN (Local Area Network) world, uses your local IP address. You can't find it on the internet. You can either get it through command prompt, or you can read it off of MInecraft. When you open your world to LAN, it should send you a message with the IP:port.
Download MCTools. Thats what my friend reccomends. not sure though.
I've had this problem and it's probably that your firewall is preventing it. Otherwise it's the way your internet is configured.
One person loads a world, pauses the game, clicks on 'Open to LAN', then 'Start LAN World'. The other should see the world on multiplayer.
We've been trying that, it still doesn't work.
