So yes I heard people saying how awesome Window 10 is, and my dad wants to upgrade the computer I play minecraft. But I get worried, because can you play mods there (such as forge-1.7.10-10.13.4.1558-1.7.10-installer) and play the updated version? And even do typical things like going in a server? Thanks, and if people will say yes, I'm pretty sure I will upgrade the computer! :3

There's something on MC Windows 10 called Friends, where you can play with specfic players, but not just a general server. And since Windows 10 edition is coded in C++, it is almost impossible to make or have actual mods in Minecraft.

Personally, I think you keep your OS the way it is, because Minecraft is currently more advanced than the Windows 10 version (because you can mod it and play on actual servers), but it's up to you and your dad if you want to update.

Even with windows 10, you can still play regular minecraft. I am currently using Windows 10, and Minecraft is working completely fine! I never downloaded Minecraft: Windows 10 edition since I just want to play normal minecraft..

They're separate programs. You aren't forced to use Minecraft Windows 10 Edition.

That's because you didn't update your graphics drivers.

Actually, I had to update it to window 10, because it caught malwares or something, but it works completely fine! I can play with mods, too!

Malware shouldn't force an upgrade. If malware was detected on your computer, make sure you get rid of it and with the right programs. Like Malwarebytes, and even just Microsoft Security Essentials will work.

It didn't force me, my dad said it was needed. He used this security app to remove the malwares, but the computer would shut down frequently, popping up a blue screen about how you needed to update the software, but here's the problem. Once he updated it to Window 10, it first worked perfectly fine. Then while I was playing minecraft, the computer froze, so I turned off the PC. When I turned it back on, it said in a black screen, "Missing operation system." My dad couldn't fix it. When my brother's friend came to our house for a visit, the friend's dad came, and he was a computer expert. But he couldn't fix it either. Welp. (Typed peacefully by my dad's laptop.)

Why didn't your brother's friend just reinstall Windows? It doesn't take an expert to do that, and Windows 10 is very good at finding drivers automatically.

You can use Minecraft or Minecraft Windows 10 Edition. Windows 10 Edition is more or less like an app, compared to the actual program.

Win 10 edition is a fancy name for Minecraft Pocket edition for Win 10 that is couple updates old. Given that you can use normal minecraft just fine makes win10 version a bit pointless in my opinion.

As to the op, I had no problems with Win10 it self that would cause to re-install win7, sadly for me I had to due to the Game Engine that I'm currently working on didn't get Win10 compatibility update yet.

Just going to copy and paste something I said in another thread about Windows 10:

Windows 10 has serious privacy flaws. Sure, you can disable some of the features in 10 minutes, but seriously, take a look at this from Microsoft's new privacy policy:
"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services."

This right here is very concerning. I'm still on Windows 7, probably will stay here.

Nvidia drivers also have some graphical issues, or so I've heard. There has also been many reports of the OS being super slow.

It also comes with tons of pre-installed bloatware, which can't easily be removed. You'll need to install something like Powershell to remove it and not just hide it. Candy crush, "xbox", "people", "weather", etc.

You're speaking almost as if things like that haven't been a part of Windows for a long time. Not to mention they added all the tracking and telemetry stuff to Windows 7 and 8 several months ago, so if you're not upgrading for privacy's sake you're only fooling yourself.

And no, the OS doesn't come with bloatware. It has one game preinstalled which you can uninstall very easily if you don't want it.

OP, you should listen to the people who have actually used the OS over those who are just regurgitating what they've heard.

^^

Not to mention, your privacy issues are only with Microsoft products, for example outlook, they can spy your emails if you'd like, but they can't read Gmail's emails, because that'd be illegal.

Because it's a integrated graphics chip, it has no vram of it's own, so there is no way it can handle and decent shaders at anything more than lowest settings at around 20 fps. Years ago, with high end shaders, I only got 60fps on a 270x with med settings.

Windows 10 is still compatible with every game that worked on Windows 7/8.1 Windows 10 is basically Windows 7 and 8.1 put together, with a few other features. It is well optimized for gaming, yet is still a bit buggy after all these months of it being released. I'd suggest getting it, it's a fantastic OS.

It comes with 29 programs preinstalled, unless this has since been updated.

Also, Windows Defender is a pain to remove. When you simply try to toggle it in the settings, it automatically turns itself back on after a while. It's also a CPU hog.

I said Windows 10 did not come with bloatware. Like most people, I consider programs like:
- Calculator
- Calendar
- Mail
- Camera
- Alarm
- Support contact
- Music
- Maps
- Some simple games (Solitaire, Minesweeper, etc.)
- A default web browser
- etc.

to be staple programs for any modern OS (on desktop and mobile). Things like the 3D modeling program and the Candy Crush game are nice additions, but I don't think they were necessary. I don't consider them to be bloatware because they're actually useful for a decent amount of people, but if you don't want them they are easily uninstalled.

As for Windows Defender, I don't see why you'd want to disable that. Not only is it fairly decent for what it is, but it's not invasive and you can't really tell that it's running.

Some people in that thread mentioned that Windows Defender uses 20-60% of their CPU power. I get your other points, though.

If you download a 3rd party antivirus, windows defender is auto-disabled. Problem solved. If you don't want ANY antivirus AT ALL, then it's a good thing that windows defender turns back on to protect against unintelligent people like that person you linked to on reddit.
