Windows 10 MC, and end to old worlds?
I am not playing MC Windows 10, as I still play the Java version. But I understand the game is a lot different, being more like the console version than the older Java windows version. So a question:
Are all Java based MC worlds a write off if (when) Windows 10 Minecraft becomes the standard?
If things go as expected, and mods and add-ons become a necessary 'in house' products of the MircoSoft development team, are they going to bother creating a feature that allows translation of Java generated worlds into new C++ models?
It has been my experience that Windows 10 involved a great 'purge' of older non-compatible games. Will a future 'upgrade' of minecraft also involve a mass purge or previously generated content (ie worlds)?
To those already playing Windows 10 MC, did you have to start new world from scratch?
One of the main reasons I ask is because I have been creating a Roleplay world for a very long time and it nearly there. Will it be a write off? Or only playable via the main MC platform for a relatively limited time?

There would be so many problems if the Java version is discontinued, for example (as said before) the game's OSX and Linux compatibility would disintegrate, each and every single MC server would have to close down and restart on the new platform, and in general the entire community of Minecraft would need to shut down and restart from scratch, on a new, unfamiliar, platform.
There would be problems, but there would also be profits. Big ones. I am not knocking Microsoft, but I don't think they will see people running OSX or Linux as their problem. It is more likely that they will see what they are doing as Microsoft's opportunity.
With the advent of Windows 8, MS declared itself hostile to Java. So it was a surprise to see them take over the widest played Java game in the world. Brief ray of hope for Java? No, we saw MCW10E come out fairly quickly. And it has been selling very well too. Ergo a growing number of players are playing a version of Minecraft that current and legacy mods are incompatible with.
Cards on the table, I see the Java version of Minecraft being phased out 'naturally' as it is surpassed by an increasing MCW10E user base. Its that user base that will be running versions compatible with Xbox and other MS preferred platforms. People talk about the advantages of C over Java, fine. But the wider picture is of subscription accounts, app store bought mods and (this is crucial to any business model) Microsoft Servers. MS has already tried to give Java a lash, and that blow will take time to sink in. Others in line are rivals like Linux etc.
I accept this is going to happen. My concern is whether some period of grace and provision is made so Java Minecraft worlds can be ported over to a C based system, rather than the whole system be changed and rebooted (ie Windows 8 to Windows 10). It is just a fact that Minecraft is part of Microsoft now, and will inevitably have to be amended to be compatible with Microsoft's preferred platform and wider suite of technologies. I think it is probably true to say that people in the Microsoft boardroom see trampling Java, OSX, Linus and Ubuntu as not only desirable, but a necessity. There was a recent article on this site about Microsoft cracking down on MC server EULAs. That is ink in the water to anyone paying attention.
I think the future of Minecraft is bright, but I also think it is going to be very different. As I said, my main concern (apart from things I can do nothing about) is that my own worlds are not lost in the process.
Ugh, y'know, I seriously hope Windows 10 MC doesn't become the standard and that the Java version remains - there goes Microsoft again trying to take control.

Sure, Windows 10 is kewl, but Windows 10 Minecraft?
No thanks.

I honestly doubt that the java version of MC will ever be taken down... because there's too much gong on for it, for example.. if it goes down, what would happen to the people who play on OSX and Linux?
Also, there have been world converters since the xbox 350 edition came out, and i'm sure there's an extremely easy way to convert worlds to mobile
Also, whats preventing people from downloading the older versions that have the normal world system?
I remember back in alpha when there was 5 worlds max, and it would save it to a file instead of in a folder
