Is it wise to start a Minecraft Server with a Hub?

Hey guys,

I've been investing lots of time and effort into configuring files, permissions, kits, donor ranks, as well as various things. The server I plan to start will start with a Hub, I would like to know if you guys have any feedback on whether or not this is a good/bad idea and why (please only constructive comments) also, i believe i'd like to center the entire server around factions, various types of factions, and possibly incorporate some unique ideas that aren't really seen on other factions servers.

I'll also be including a couple minigames, the ones commonly enjoyed such as Survival Games, Spleef etc.

My idea is to NOT release everything for once. I will have the hub, and start off with possibly 1 minigame, and 1 factions server, and have "coming soon" signs around the other planned factions servers/minigames. This will hopefully prevent the common issue of players being too spread out. I will then slowly open the other intended mini-games and factions servers once the ones used are reaching almost the intended capacity.

Also, to prevent downtime I plan on securing a 3 or 6 month downpayment on MCProHostings Bedrock plan. This is because, if I spend too much too soon, realistically I won't receive mass amounts of players, and ill run out of funding, which happens a LOT too hub servers.

Also, the build quality of the spawns, hubs, minigame maps, are all of professional quality and is being done by a really good build team. I'd like to ask the community their opinions/thoughts/feedback on my server's plan, and what flaws are there in my plans.

Please only post constructive comments Thanks!

I realize that its probably a lot harder to start with a hub server, but ive also heard switching from a regular server to a hub server is like committing server-suicide. Its why i think it may be better to start from the beginning with the hub and grow. Also, is it really beneficial to have unique new-aspects as a part of a server, i mean if you think about it, wouldnt it cause confusion, as people are used to prison, skyblock, and factions?

I own a hub server, and as a guy said earlier, it is hard to start out with a hub. Honestly, I would recommend picking a server style that is not extremely popular now. So do not pick Factions, Prison, KitPvP. You need to pick what is going to be the next popular server. Thinkl ahead. That way, when it is your time to shine, you can achieve higher goals, bring in rocking donations, and shine like a big server. Invest time in lag management (Even for players that refuse to change their render distance), and uniquness. Pay a few bucks for a awesome banner, a non-public plugin, and a really good custom spawn/map. It will make you the best.

Just my opinion, I think you should start off with no hub- but an outstanding *for example* plugin, which will completely change the experience from different servers. Such as, a portal gun, which you need a certain item to use, and you could make it so you can use that portal gun to further progress into the survival world- by making something like test chambers, which, when completed, will grant the player a reward.
Hope my feedback will help you.

From my work on creating and running servers, start simple and slowly make the servers bigger and better. If you are getting a host to run for you, start off with one and see how it is. Contact the host company saying you would like to add a couple of servers and they may give you a discount. If you are hosting yourself see how to servers run on one machine. If they work well and just generally get a nice little plugin called Bungee Cord. If you would like help on your server running it staff or just generally send me a PM and I will look what I can do.

Please let me know if I can help. Just tell me what plugins you plan to use and what Playing Types!

Hope this helped

Thanks for all the feedback I'm getting some pretty good responses, Does anyone think combining Adventure Maps (Dungeons etc.) with Factions and possibly like Classes to be a good idea? Please let me know .

With factions and HungerGames you would most likely not get very many players. I would suggest a simple survival world. All though if you had like to where the players could join cities insted of survivng on their own. Also a mini-game like MobArena would be nice for a hub server because not alot of servers have MobArena.

Possibly providing a more unique experience may offer more? Would it be better to add unique minigames, and do maps take in any factor? I've noticed while some of the bigger hubs have good maps, they arent always the best.

If I we're you, I wouldn't. I thought it would be a good idea to build a huge server with different gamemodes and all that, but since nobody knows about you, you wont have enough players to make it fun. Start out smaller to get bigger

Thanks for the feedback! Do you think honestly it wouldnt be able to grow over a 3 month or even 6 month period? only having the hub connecting to 1 factions server and 1 minigame, possibly like hunger games? Response appreciated

This was my plan. I didn't see any problems with it but now the problem is, a lot of minigames and even factions require a certain amount of people to be fun, so the fact that you are splitting up the players, mean less people playing each mode, meaning less fun. So less people will stick around. Add that on the top of the fact your paying so much for the hosting, half of which your not using. If I we're you, start out as just one gamemode, get a solid playerbase, and expand from there! Hope it helps

The problem is standing out why would they join your hub rather than one of the larger hubs with loads of players and games going on all the time, if you can answer that question and feel confident then I am sure you will be able to build a player base and expand, however if you are just doing the same thing as the large hub servers but not quite as well then I think you are wasting your time.
