Your feelings on advertisements?

Hey guys!
Me and a few of my buddies are going to set up a public server for a few games (currently Minecraft and TF2 planned). But we need a way to pay for this server.
The easiest way is through advertisements. But obviously, adverts are annoying.
We could also do it through donations. But not many people donate, and this wouldn't be a reliable source of income.
We need to be able to pay to keep the server running. Even though we know how to keep it running (obviously), we are going to have the server in a friend of our's shop. He also has a server, but we need to pay him for power, and we need to chip in on the internet costs. This is going to come to around £20-30 a month.
So what do you think? Do you hate adverts so much, that you won't play on a server that has them? Or are you happy to see small adverts from time to time, if it means the server is free?
All help is hugely appreciated. As are any plausible alternatives!
