Zombies not picked up items/wearing armor?

Hello, Sometimes when playing Minecraft I want to create a small map or game. I want zombies to wear armor and pick up items. I tried giving it to them and they did not pick up the items. You read that they do but you clearly see that they do not pick it up. This is Not a glitch. The reason for this is that they do not Always pick up items.

The zombies spawn with the armor and weapons or they kill you and get it. P.S. skeltons can also get armor and weapons.
Also, they spawn a lot more on hard.
Actually zombies DO pick up items. Though sometimes it doesn't work. Keep on trying, the zombies WILL pick them up eventually.

Correct. Only a small portion of zombies will actually pick up dropped items. However with Kamyu's tools, you can create custom spawners and implement them with MCedit.
Well i would like to point out that Zombies very rarely pick up items. They still do but rarely. 1)YOU can not give a zombie a certain object/item they spawn with it or eaither pickup a tool of the ground.They can not pickup blocks.
For that last part, tell that to the zombie who smacked me with dirt.
Since it seems you can't give them yourself, try dispensing it and then having the zombie pick it up. Also try changing to Hard, because different difficulties actually change certain mechanics of what mobs do.

EpicXphos is right. I believe Sethbling posted a video in which he showed you how to customise various mob spawns
That's because, the zombies spawn with the items. I think there's a file where you can customize what they would hold and wear just like Hypixel's maps.
