Datapack Collaboration
Datapack Collaboration
I've recently found myself taking on an ambitious project. While I have known about Minecraft Datapacks, I have recently become infatuated with creating one. I have been skinning, texturing and building for Minecraft for years now, and I thought experimenting with a new medium would be a great experience. It has certainly been an experience. I have found a new respect for people who code. I never seem to quite grasp what I am doing, even when a video or thread is explaining each line of code. So, I'm asking this community for help. I need someone to help me code a datapack. I will provide the textures, models and icons, while the other participant will handle the more technical side of everything. You tell me what my limitations are modeling and texture wise and I will work within those parameters. If we decide on a structure, I will build it. I want to make this as easy for you as possible!

Expanding the Desert
I want this datapack to expand one of Minecraft's most mundane biomes, the desert. This bundle would be heavily inspired by Ancient Egypt, so if you want to partake in this project, it is mandatory that you be respectful to the culture and that we are not appropriating anything. With that said I feel as if there is so much potential for this area and I have a multitude of ideas.
- A new biome called the "Scorching Desert" which has a heat function, allowing you to only wear lighter weight armor or else you will overheat.
- I felt Mojang was on the right track adding different uses for gold and leather in the most recent updates, and I want to also explore that concept
- Ancient Egypt was full of lush greens and many amazing temples devoted to different deities, so new trees and temples would generate.
- New passive and aggressive mobs could be found here. We can discuss which would be the most beneficial, but to name a few:
- A new ore: Bronze
- As of right now I envision bronze to be much like netherite, but only being used for swords. So, a new table would have to be created. (Although I like the idea of bronze this ore may not be needed)
- A "Sandstorm Event" that would trigger rarely and would cover the biome in a particle effect
- New weapons and shields. Slings, spears, khopesh swords, hunting bows just as a few examples. Again, we can decide what is beneficial.
- A new ability letting you transform into a bird for a certain amount of time. Think of it as an early to mid-game elytra, so we have to make sure it is balanced
- Perhaps more gems and jewels or giving Lapis Lazuli more function
These are just a few ideas, and I am obviously not familiar with the limitations of Datapacks, so you will have to tell me what we can and cannot do. I am aware that this does sound more of a mod, but the idea of this being completely vanilla, only using Minecraft's in-game resources is incredibly cool to me. The Origin Realm's server has taken this idea of enhancing Minecraft with nothing but datapacks and a texture pack and ran with it. It's incredibly impressive.
Applications
The best way I can think of taking applications is viewing your work on your profile page (You do not have to have many on your page, just enough to know you have some experience with more experimental projects), or if you wish to send me a datapack you've created privately that works as well. I will only be choosing one or two other participants to help with this project! We can also talk about the easiest way to communicate with each other.
I'm looking forward to whoever I work with!
(Re-reading this it sounded much more like a job application than I wanted it too. It's really not that serious.)

Write at any time, share the discord. I have been studying world generation for six months, although not perfectly. My works are in my profile, even though I can’t finish one specific one to the end. But unfortunately, I'm starting my studies soon and therefore I can occasionally help. I was just looking for people doing resource packs and cosmetic mechanics.
I want to note that for datapacks this is too ambitious a plan. Datapacks don't have that much room for new items, especially blocks like mods. But I'm not a modder, unfortunately. I would suggest a datapack that further expands the cave world and ores, updates the generation of эarm biomes (although I'm afraid Terralith has already outplayed and destroyed us), or slightly updates the generation of the End, adding depressive and dim biomes with dungeons. But I would wait with the latter until publicity 1.20

I wouldn't say that's true. Custom items made with datapacks aren't as easy to handle with commands like /give and /item and stuff, which mod items are, but for most users of the datapack, that probably isn't that important.
I start college soon as well, so I may have to put this project on hold. Again, I wasn't sure of the limitations of datapacks, so I appreciate this information! I do really appreciate you taking the time to look into this thread. Hope everything goes well with school!
can u share discord?
Even if 2 people with datapacking experience participate in this like you planned, there still is a lot to do and this will take time. Don't expect this to be finished any time soon. Not that that is a problem, just keep that in mind. (btw you can also publish unfinished datapacks and update them, as long as there is a functioning version)
That said, I would be willing to participate, but I can't and won't guarantee that I'll stay active.

Absolutely! I had no plans on it being done anytime soon. I expected this project to take a couple months at least. I will see if anyone else if interested and if not, I would love to talk with you more!
