Do custom trim patterns still work?

Minecraft changed how custom armor trims work for data packs in the new version. I expect the trim materials will be (relatively) easy to update to the new version, but my concern is that custom trim patterns no longer work because they removed the armor_trims atlas. Does anyone know if it's still possible to make custom trim patterns, or are they completely broken?
