Check out SCMowns on YouTube and on Planet Minecraft, he makes modding tutorials all the time. He is the best one to learn from...
That's great that you want to make a mod, but take my advice, IT'S HARD. I've tried it, it's very difficult to add anything other than new tools or blocks. I suggest looking on the Minecraft Forum, I found a couple of tutorials there.
Well my best advice would be google. There are lots of great tutorials out there made for people like you. But there is this popular website that is actually pretty good: http://www.codecademy.com/
