I was just on a server. Everything was fine and fun until... Another player on the server suddenly became op. The console or another player was not envolved. He started putting giant spheres of tnt at spawn. He opped his friend and then they started spewing crap in chat about force op. I will admin, in vain I've tried to download one of those programs. When it didn't work I came to the conclusion that these programs were fake. But today made me believe otherwise. -snip-

You can "force op" with a potato

If the server is in offline made (like a cracked server) You can "force op" with a potato but if the server is in online mode it's very hard and most programs will not work.
You can get sued for hacking aswell. Not just banned
Sorry you can NOT ever sue somebody on Minecraft unless you physically OWN Minecraft. Read there community guidelines & legal...
You can't get sued for simply hacking in a game. The worst they can really do is ban you from their game. If you release complete hacked Minecraft clients, then you can / probably will be sued. But using modded clients like Nodus / Kinky nothing worse than a ban can happen to you. You could also be sued for using programs like SessionStealer, because you're taking over someone else's paid-for server.
You can't get sued for hacking... otherwise, every little kid who downloads a hacked client would be getting their pants sued off.
If your flying around in a server, it doesnt even come close to federal court :/
You really shouldn't hack unless you want to get banned, and etc. etc.
There is No Client Hack that can just give you Op, But in fact there are other "force Op" programs that do exist, such as session Stealer, that will take your server setion and send it to another server once you join a hacked server. in that case, if the owner of one server joins a hacked server, that own's session on the hacked server will get sent to his server, then the owner of the hacked server could make him type any command for that session,
Another is through a Plugin. Hacker may tell the owner of a server to Get a plugin that will help speed up there Server, but along with that plugin. it gives players the ability to op them selfs.
So Stay clear of any plugins that you don't get straight from the Bukkit web site, and stay clear of any servers that someone you don't know tells you to go on.

He wasn't complaining to PMC. He didn't say PMC was responsible for what happened. It wasn't his server, either. He said that he was playing on a server, and someone got randomly opped, opped their friend, and they were blowing up spawn. He then furtherly asked a question - does forceop really exist? He didn't say "Can I have a hack? Do you know where to download a forceop?" He said "Does force op really exist?" in curiosity.

Yes and No. No hacked client, can force op but if somebody gives you a free plugin it might have some strings to force op that player and thats how it happens most of the time
Yes it exists sometimes. When a forceop is made, the people who make server software, not the server owners, send out a patch to fix it. It usually gets out fast enough and hopefully no one knows about the bug until after its fixed. But there are those times where they do attack.
There is no ForceOp. Probably an abusive staff member...
