I don't get it
Furnaces work by burning something (like wood) to burn something else. If you burn 1 piece of wood to make another piece into charcoal, why don't you get 2 pieces of charcoal?

Fuel runs out depending on the materal, lava will last longest, wood will last shortest.

I think he's asking like.. logically, if you used a piece of wood as fuel to burn another piece of wood, wouldn't you get two times the charcoal.

That's a good point! However you should be burning one plank because burning a log is incredibly inefficient.

1 wood = 1 charcoal.
1 wood = 1 charcoal.
but you are burning a piece of wood to get the other piece of wood burnt.
