I have a couple ideas for minecraft, first off: Lapis armor and tools, Cant think of any special attributes it might have at the moment. Second, more ores: Rubies, Sapphires, and Emeralds, more rare than diamonds and you can make tools and compine all three in any combination for different attributes.
Tell me what you think! And no flaming please!

Here's an idea: give the Villagers certain items and they can either defend, fight, craft, build, or attack you. The Villagers need a propose. They can't just be there.

Another item is adding natural disasters like tornadoes, tidal waves, earthquakes, etc. That would motivate you to build big, stronger houses. But for those people that don't want this mode, add an on/off switch.

Those are just some of my items. I have more and I will use those later.

-More defensive structures. Dispensers kind of suck.
-Emeralds, rubies, amethysts and some nether ores.
-A wider variety of plant life.
-This one kind of relates to the above suggestion. Carnivorous plants that attack you and other creatures. They could be harvested and re-planted to be used in traps and things.
-Some sort of machine that allows you to explore ravines.
-Marble and other types of decorative blocks.

Since we're talking about new ideas for blocks Notch could add, I suggest he adds decorative things. For Example:

Statues
Vases
Limestone
Marble
Cranes
Machines
Palm Trees

I guess i was kindof dumb for the lapis ideas :/, but i like the other ores, and the different effects like digging faster underwater, or more damage in the nether/ end world. I do wish though that they would add more potions and other things; i like the idea of alchemy in minecraft

We have Mods for Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire ore. Perhaps you could give this idea to a Modder.

I say advanced machinery, and being able to create a machine to use objects. Like a pick in the machine would mine and so on.

I agree with RandomPanda, for that I say no to the Lapis armor. Plus, I also agree with the attributes. Rubies would set fire to mobs, Sapphires could do extra damage to nether mobs and mine obsidian and possibly make underwater mining faster, and maybe Emeralds could poison mobs...

No to the Lapis Armor and tools. Lapis is a material that is easily ground up and used as a dye. In other words, it makes perfect sense in this game.

Rubies and Sapphires are actually the same material: Corundum, which is a material 4x weaker than diamond. Now, since Iron is 8x weaker than diamond, Corundum could make for a useful intermediate tool.

As for these 'attributes', I think you'll need to define what they are.
Perhaps Rubies set fire to mobs.
Perhaps Sapphires do extra damage to nether mobs and can mine obsidian in a snap.
Dunno about Emeralds.
