Empty monster spawner?

In SinglePlayer Commands I placed a spawner through spawn [mob] and then it turned the stone block into an empty spawner. No zombie(what i wanted), no default pig, nothing but a cage and flame particles. What did i do wrong?

You need to say "/spawner (Monster ID)" example: "/spawner 56" look on the wiki for monster ID's.

I also tested with a pig spawner, didn't work

check ur mode if ur on peace ful bam that's it. and spawners need to be in a DARK place for mobs to spawn... ya it's not as good...

Just get modloader and Spawner gui and right click it to change the spawner .__.

I did spawner pig, didn't spawn nothing...

first off you might have been on peaceful and second it doesnt always have a sprite in the center
