UNEPICME
I found a Ghast by my fort which wasn't in the nether. Plus I tried spawning some in to see if my Texture Pack was turning them red (The Ghast was red) But they spawned white.

If there's a nether portal, the ghast might have gotten in through it. It was probably red because it suffocating.
