So, 1.8 is out, HUZZAH!
However, I only get about 5-10 fps, even on tiny render distance with graphics set to fast. I also have smooth lighting turned off. Is any one else having problems like this & has anyone figured out how to cure them?

My framerate lingers betweeen 30 and 80. Sometimes it can dip lower, but when I optimize java, it can go up to 150.
Same problem here. No clue what to do about it.
I have a pretty fast computer at home and don't get any framerate issues with it... but when I try to play Minecraft v1.8.1 on my 3 year old Macbook Pro, it gets anywhere from 8-11 FPS... all the settings turned down. Clearly this version of the game puts a lot more strain on system resources, so I doubt 1.9 is going to be much of an improvement... hopefully they will be able to make this game more accessible again to people with older machines :\

I'm guessing that when you say 1.8 is out you mean 1.8 Pre-release, right?
hmmmm m8 i has the same problem but not as bad i get a tiny bit of lagg i found like 100 bugs!

i have the same problem as well im just going to wait for 1.9 than hopefully they fixed it then =]
EDIT or 1.8.1 or somthing like that =D
