Not sure if this will work, but it did for me. I think that when this happened to me, I deleted my minecraft jar and then at the screen where you log in, I clicked "options" and did "force update". I'm not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try.

Remove your saves and such, delete the bin folder, relaunch MC and do a clean install.

Try removing the "version" file in your bin folder if not, trash everything in your bin folder...if not.. Trash your minecraft folder, but if u do that, there would be no sound because it takes A LONG time to retrieve the whole resources folder
OMFG i tried that, i deleted my minecraft folder and its downloading the files when BAM: retrieving lwjgl.jar
