Help On Installing Texture Pack (Windows)
I am desperately trying to install a texture pack, and I have a Windows 7/8 I think? Anyways, I have already installed winrar, that extracting program, but had learned that method was outdated. I'm just keeping it just in case.. I've checked and seen many video tutorials, and the start screen of their minecraft there are the three tabs, or whatever you call it, ' singleplayer', 'multiplayer', and 'mods and texture packs.. the download was fairly easy for them, but I don't have the third tab, 'mods and texture packs' on my start screen. Does that affect my download? I have installed all my texture packs but have yet to install to minecraft or connect it to minecraft, I have a feeling my texture pack is not .zip file, and on the texture pack there was a folder and two other things, do I include that to paste unto the resource folder? Or is this method totally wrong.. Or can I give up, delete this discussion and stick with freaking vanilla minecraft..

There is no third button, when you're in-game you click esc and click on the resourcepack button. If you don't know how to install the resources for Windows 8, do this: press the Windows key+r, type in %appdata%, click ok, this should open a folder, click on .minecraft, resourcepacks, and put in the resourcepack there
I don't know how to help you if you have a Windows 8, since I have 7.
But here's the thing: you need 7zip or Winrar (I use winrar) to install texture packs.
It doesn't really matter if Winrar or 7zip is outdated.
The conclusion i have that you can't find a tab that is called mods and texture packs is because that is a feature of an outdated Minecraft version. The tab for texture/resource packs is now located in the Options tab.
Anyways, this is how you install texture/resource packs:
1. Click on the Windows logo/Start on the bottom left of the screen.
2.Type in the search bar: ''%appdata%'' and press enter. If you do that, a window should pop up and the top thing in the window should be a folder called .minecraft.
3. Open the .minecraft folder. In there should be a folder called: resourcepacks.
4. If you go in the resource packs folder, you can just put in the .zip file of the texture/resource pack and you're done.
OR
1. Open up Minecraft.
2. Click on the Options tab. In there you'll find the tab: resource packs.
3. Open the tab and click on: Open resource pack folder.
4. A window should pop up. There it is, the resource pack folder. Just put in the .zip of the texture/resource pack you want to install and you're done.

I hope this helped.
