Java edition or windows 10?
I just recently switched from xbox to pc and i want to buy minecraft, but i didn’t realize there were two types. What’s the difference? is there a certain one i should get instead?
10
Java is more for public servers and free content via developers.
Bedrock are for more open-and shut worlds, achievements, and cool servers! (Need a microsoft account though.)

Java has a bigger online following, and is much less buggy than Windows 10, aka Bedrock. Bedrock lets you play with people on different platforms, has better performance on low end computers, and has a shop you can use to buy maps, skin packs, etc. There's not really one that's better than the other, but most people prefer Java and I'd say it's best if you have at least a mid range computer.
Java is easier, I only have Java and I feel that its easier to use and plus you don't have to on java (unless you get a virus and your computer breaks) than yea I recommend java!
If you're switching from xbox, go with java. Windows 10 is bedrock edition, which is what xbox is. Java would offer a whole new set of things to play with and use you can't use on bedrock.
Get Java
If you played on Xbox, you already have a Windows 10 (aka Bedrock) account, so you can simply download it and log into your account, so you won't need to pay for Windows 10
Java edition is much more popular and everything inside it is free (Except the game, ofc). You don't have to buy stuff from a marketplace, skins, datapacks, ect are free on Java

I would highly recommend Java
They're both slightly different in terms of vanilla gameplay, but their selling points are moreso differing.
Windows 10 edition offers compatibility with other devices (consoles and mobile devices), as well as optimisation, so your device has a easier time processing the game.
Java edition offers a lot more customisability through datapacks, mods and big servers.

so JAVA is the original, kind of, and BEDROCK (windows 10) is just like xbox, nintendo, PE, etc. try java, they have lots of good stuff. but i recommend both
