Java or C#?
Should I learn Java or C# first as a programming language?

As the first programming language, I would go for Python to focus on algorithms, I heard Java's good for that too :3
I would go straight to java, unless they're predominantly going for web development or data
Java, or why are you on PMC?
Just because they play minecraft, doesnt mean they cant pursue or ask pmc about something outside of minecraft.
To be fair in your case, they haven't explicitly stated what they want to do with that language, but they're implying general programming, for which this specific section is the wrong section anyways

i mean Minecraft is written using Java.
and PMC is a Minecraft community
and PMC is a Minecraft community
yes but you can be a programmer specialising in some other language, and still be a minecraft enthusiast
It depends what you want to do in the future.
Assuming you have absolutely no programming experience, if you want to go into minecraft modding, out of those 2, I would suggest Java. You'll be able to create plugins and mods after you get experienced with it.
For programming in general, it depends ig, but both of them are virtually the same, and using either wont hurt at all.
If you want to mainly make Windows applications or make games via something like Unity, use c# (iirc its the best for windows based applications)
For backend programming, applications for companies, web development and android app development or like 99% if what c# can do, Java is usually used.

I agree, it totally depends on what you are planning to do with it, or what path you want to take in future.
However, "both of them are virtually the same" Hmmm, not sure about that haha.

At the very least, they're both very similar and both branch from C/C++
c# is easier but java is harder but b etteer
I think all 3 of those statements are down to personal preference. Java and C# aren't really comparable, they are very very different languages. Java sucks for a lot of things, and likewise C sharp has disadvantages in many scenarios. To say which one is better or easier depends on what you are planning to do with it really.
BOTH ^^
