Make it easier to make a server
most people have trouble making a server it would be nice to be able to make a sever without going through the hassle of making it mojang should try make a some kind of program that makes it for you and gets it running so can play on it and then you would still have a folder with the options to the server that were already there what i mean is that like the pe version you can just make severs just like that

It would be cool, but no matter how simple it gets, you'll always have to portforward if you're looking for a free server. I pay $16/month for a 2GB server. and I personally know how to setup a free portforwarded server, but I prefer having a company host it for me for many reasons. But if you do want to host a server, I'd go with Minecraft Realms, if it's not too expensive [I'm in the U.S].
i usea host
Only problem here is my router's inability to NOT BE STUPID
Use a host or wait for Minecraft realms.

In my opinion, servers should stay as they are because it isn't difficult at all, as long as you have a little bit of experience. If you don't, YouTube will always be there for you.
People that think spending half an hour watching a resourceful video about setting up a server and installing plugins is a waste of their time aren't going to have a very good server anyway.
Some people really don't understand how to host a server, even after playing Minecraft for half a year and watching several tutorials on YouTube. This is what the forums are for; everything can be solved if they invest a small amount of time into posting a thread.

For every 3 players we have 1 server.

Servers actually pretty much are just download and run. All you really need to do is port forward. It's really not that difficult. Although, if you're lacking the knowledge of how to do this, or you're just too lazy, Minecraft realms is being made available. Minecraft realms is a product from Mojang where you simply buy a subscription, and they host a private server for you. It's only available in a few European countries right now, but it's expanding quickly. Be patient.
Your run-on sentence made me uncomfortable.
This.
i finally figured out how to make a server so if anyone wants me to keep this post up post (jellybeans) on this post i wil keep it if i get three different people saying it by 9:00

No no no.. there are too many servers, i actually want it to be harder so not every noob makes them
You should rather get more into making an advanced server if you want to have it public and popular. only then can you unleash the full potential of bukkit. if you are talking about vanilla minecraft servers, it should be as easy as just starting the server and set up your router properly, or just pay a hosting service. easy. (minecraft realms might also be an alternative)
I personally think that the servers should stay "Complex" to make. If someone can't do the basic set up of a server - to say, downloading Bukkit and pressing a few keys - then they probably aren't able to run it or even have good structures..
And, most new servers are just the same old, same old. There are already hundreds of copies of popular minecraft servers.
So yeah, making the servers easier to start up just starts a load of inevitable problems. More posts to wade through when looking for servers, and way too many unfriendly people.

Agreed.
While I agree on the age point, Evan, I sort of disagree and agree at the same time on the last point. you're right that many servers have 0 players on most of the time, but that's actually why they have 0. that sort of thinking. many servers with potential to be great start up, and don't have anyone on because no one's on. it's a self feeding loop.
Take for example, the Roleplay server I co-own for example. We've only just reopened, (the owner who's hosting us had IRL issues and we had to close for a few months.) and while we have a dedicated playerbase, somehow, they're also a fairly inactive playerbase. most of them don't come on unless there's someone already on there, which is a problem. but if there's even one player on, the playercount explodes, up to at least 4 people on average. but before there's a chance for the playercount to rise any higher, if anyone logs off, everyone ends up logging off, because there's no one there.
Of course, we're locked in a 1.6.4 setup due to plugins, so that's also a major factor, but it's still true.
So I say, next time you see an empty server, if it looks like it's had some work put into it, linger for a bit, and give it a chance to come to life. all a server really needs to become thriving is a handful of players. who get on even if no one else is at the time.

Not to be age biased, but I don't think that anyone under 12 should run a server for public use. Just for a group of friends is fine, but if you are actually trying to run it for public it is just futile.
If you cannot figure out how to set up a server, then I seriously think you should not run the server.
There have been thousands of factions, minigame, and survival servers that have a constant 0 people on. Most of them say they are "LOOKING FOR STAFF!!!!!" but why would anyone want to be staff on a server that has no people on?
My advice is to start something new and original.

By my opinon its too easy to make a server : P
They're fairly simple to make, if your having that much trouble trying to make one, look up a guide on youtube. Most of them are detailed and informative.
what im saying is that i cant figure port forwarding because they always ave a different router than i do
oh wait, so thats your problem. i honestly have difficulties with the same thing. there are barely any tutorials about portforwarding on an old telenor router(which is what i have sadly...).
http://portforward.com Basically helps portforward with almost any type of router out there.

i ment trouble it late last night when i posted that
Or you could simply google it or follow the guide provided by Bukkit team at ->wiki.bukkit.org/Setting_up_a_server
Just make sure you know how to open ports.

you'd be better off paying for a professionally hosted server where the setup is all done for you, the only thing you'd need to do is maintain the server and keep paying it monthly. If you can't do that then play for another server or just stick to single player.
People who say this are, IMHO, too dang stupid to run a server. I don't think this about remote hosts because you still need to config the plugins. Sorry notreally.png if I'm a bit harsh, but that's what I think.
it's not really offensive too much but its kind of true, a server is going to require work regardless of whether its hosted on your home internet, lan or a professional host. it's pure laziness if you can't be stuffed and trying to find the shortcut way out of making a server. i say this from genuine experience with minecraft servers and how hard it is to work with servers and plugins etc
making a sever less lazy than it is to buy and pay for one mounthly

If you cannot set up a vanilla server, you can MUCH LESS run a server..
If you can't afford a server then you should try a aternos.org I usually just create a free server there and play with my friends. I don't get any lag :p
Go to McProHosting, they have a NINETY percent off code right now, you can get a 6 GB server for like $9. Not advertising, just sayin'.
pay for a server thats prof. hosted
^
Idk if you could get software that you just download and BOOM server. Though software that sort of helped you a bit would be good. Like the server software that you could download for Minecraft classic servers. Although, you still had to code it and what not.
Don't like the run-on-sentences mate :/
Minecraft Realms. Done.
