<Minecraft 1.3.1 Sound bug>

When I updated minecraft to 1.3.1, the sound files were missing, well I got a fresh copy and the sound files were only new sound, so I got my old 1.2.5 sound files and placed it to 1.3.1 and it worked great, but randomely when I play the game, for about 5 minutes, out of nowhere the whole game goes quiet, like not even a sound and its driving me insane, I coulnt even hear a Creeper's Explosion. Is their a way to fox that

yah for some reason my 1.3 doesn't work right, only a few sound work but the few sound only work park of the time.
in 1.2.5 all i had to do is leave minecraft a lone for a little bit and thin all the sounds worked just fine.
