With 1.8 coming out soon and playing the 14w25a snapshot i started thinking with all these variants of the new block and the crystals and things i think Mojang are kind of turning minecraft into a mod, Ive no problem with mods i use them all the time but the crystals in vanilla minecraft i think is stupid

True, I can still remember how excited I was for the 1.4 update (with the anvils, easier enchanting and that stuff). Now it just feels like they just make the game bigger, with items with no use other than decoration.

A mod is generally a modification made to the game by a third party, so if Mojang added the crystals, it wouldn't be a mod, but a part of the game. Besides, there's actually been a "crystal" in the game for quite some time. Look up the "Ender Crystal", and see what I mean.
