Sorry for the repost (put this in the help section first) but nobody is answering :'(
I need to know what files a server needs to run in order to start. For example: server.jar server properties.jar ect..
Thanks

Ok. Lets explain this in great detail...

I am using Filezilla to put files over to someones minecraft server. I want to run a certain file, but i can't do that with filezilla because you can only make stuff run on your computer. Because lots of programs need to have files that help them run (dll's and such), I was wondering if I could rename and change the file type on my file to that of one that was required but not used.

My first guess was i could change the file type to a .jar so the server thinks it's a plugin... I need creativity people.

END TO THE DON'T HUG ME IM SCARED OPPRESSION!

I think YOU are CONFUSED here.

What do you mean " a certain file"? A Minecraft server doesn't need any files other than a .jar either; I presume that you got the .jar from Minecraft's website or something like Craftbukkit.org. There's no renaming required. And what "file" do you have?

And why do you need to make this "file" a .jar so that the server thinks it's a plugin? If it was actually a plugin, it'd be a .jar from the start.

For plugins you need craft bukkit. The vanilla server.jar will not generate a plugins folder.

by a file I mean a .exe or something like that. Sorry for being unclear. I was thinking I could just rename it to an unused folder like plugins. Would renaming it work?

I'm still not exactly sure what you mean by this.

Depends on what you mean. If you have multiple server folders, then simply run the jar in the folder that you want to use. If you mean something like a map, you have to copy the map into the folder where the jar is, then in server.properties (if you don't have it, run the jar first so it generates it), edit what's after "level-name=" to the name of the map folder.

If it's other stuff like plugin configs and general files, just put it in the appropriate directory in your server folder, overwriting anything if necessary.

Thanks m8. Last thing. Is here any way to make it run a certain folder/file?

All you need is the server jar. Inside the jar are default files that are to be unpacked and used if no previous files were detected.

*EDIT* So if you tried to start a server with literally nothing but the jar, it will just generate and unpack everything else and run exactly like a default server, kinda like when you make a single-player world with no parameters.
