When rereading the blog post announcing the trailer for the Minecraft movie, I noticed this paragraph:

A Minecraft Movie is directed by Jared Hess (best known for Ninety-Five Senses and Nacho Libre) and stars Jason Momoa, Jack Black as well as Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, with Jennifer Coolidge. Get a glimpse into the adventures that await and the friends you’ll meet in our first ever motion picture! Coming 2025.

What's that? First ever? Does that mean we'll get more movies later on? Or am I just reading too far into it.

I would personally assume that "first ever" in this context refers to the fact that it is indeed their first movie ever. I would not doubt that they'll try to make more movies for maximum profit, but I don't think that's what they're implying here.

There is a tremendous incentive to maximize return on all the upfront expenditure because filming the next should be significantly less expensive given the organization and infrastructure required to produce the first one would mostly carry over.

Definite maybe (as in... if this makes money we'll ride that pony until it doesn't)

Given the organization and infrastructure needed to produce one movie will largely carry over, doing the next ought to be considerably less expensive so there is a strong push to maximize return on all the front loaded investment.
