There is no multiplayer option.
Options >> Multiplayer >> Chat >> Cycle through the three options until you reach 'chat off'.
This is a default feature, and should work with Tekkit. I think. I'm not sure what game version it's on, but I think I heard it was recently updated to 1.3.
