Coding From 1.6.4 To 1.8

Hello! I currently know how to code mods in 1.6.4, but I want to start coding in 1.8. Is it the same? If so, how do I set it up?

Most of it is the same but now adding textures for blocks and items are a lot different and a bit more time consuming
