Does this mod exist?
I want to know if this mod already exists, or if someone could make this. Basically, is it possible to have a mod that makes a small notification sound if I am messaged? For example I put out a buying/selling request in chat, and switch to another window while I wait. When someone messages me, I get an alert. Seems simple enough. Anyone?

Probably not. I found a server bukkit plugin that does that called NoiseNotification, but no mods
Yeah, I need it to be client side. I don't want it so that the entire server has to install it.
If its bukkit only the server needs it

Well almost anything you can imagine can be a mod so it's very likely possible to be made.

TabbyChat for liteloader can be set up to do this, which is all configurable with Forge.
You can set certain keywords or phrases which can do any minecraft sound, for example you can set it up so every time someone says cat it meows.
