I'd like to test out some new mods on a single player world that I'd like to keep for the upcoming years. Way back in time, I was addicted to mods, but stopped using them because they'd ruin my worlds sometimes, like if new content came out and I decided to ditch all mods so I could update the game, it would corrupt my worlds, making them un-playable as vanilla worlds again. Does that still happen or have advancements been made to the game to stop that from happening and/or allow you to fix the issue?
And what if there are custom blocks and ores placed, do the blocks just disappear or will it corrupt the game like it used to no matter what?

It's sorta a 50-50. I'd suggest creating backups of your worlds in case they have a stroke.
Darn, I read a Reddit post that had my hopes up. They said that all custom blocks will just be gone from the world, and the only issues you might run into are chests with custom items have a chance to completely empty, and player inventories can sometimes be completely deleted or corrupted, causing game crash, but that could be fixed by going into the player inventory save file and deleting it. I felt like this was too good to be true.
That's usually the case, but sometimes the game just freaks.
