Best things to do are to basically:
1.Learn Java key words http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Java_keywords and learn what they do.
2.Watch tutorials on youtube ,I would suggest https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOBqSq ... Y8JwgfhpRQ if this doesn't work out then you can always basically search up "How to make a bukkit plugin"
3.Experiment on stuff mess around with some stuff
4.Understanding coding is basically having multiple account and they all have different passwords and you know what each of them are for.
I'm 14 and learnt how to code it should be easy for you make sure to get everything you need.Go through everything step by step

learn Java (it's very hard to learn if you don't know the basics fomr other programming things)
and the last thing is:
make a mod
al these things will probably cost you 1 or 2 years to master. then you can code a nice mod. if you want to make really epic mods... i think it will atleast cost you 2 years more.

If you want to mod, don't start with C, Start with Java. Java is pretty similar to C#, so if you want to learn C# later you'll already be a few steps ahead. C++ is nothing like either of those, so no point in learning it and then Java.
it took me 2 hours on how to learn to how to make a basic one, no offense but nobody should follow this advice.
If you learn to make a simple block or Item mod in VERSION 1.6.2....
you will be able to pickup on changes in newer versions much quicker.
Check out MCMowns on youtube for his tutorials. I learned from that and now im capable of making mostly any mod.
( i did have a little coding knowledge first tho)
