How do I install mods?
I use a Mac OSX Mountain Lion and I have an archiver i go to mine craft.jar I delete META.INF and I drag in the Too Many Items mod and when i go to play it asks me if I want to update so I say yes and then it says that there was an error.

try using mcpatcher, it installs mods and allows you to use 256x256 texture packs

No sorry this isn't advertising i was trying to help because it is easier to look at a video that shows you how to do it 8)
Ok so I got it downloaded and it's working then I tried to install the Shape Shifters mod, well let's just say one miracle at a time.
You don't need forge for TMI, You're probably thinking NEI.
Also make sure you have forge.
Too Many Items has to be updated for it too work with the latest MC version. Be sure to download the recommended version of Too Many Items with the correct version of Minecraft.
When it asks you to update just say no
