I just watched JavaBuckets's tutorials, and started making a mod (stopped because of 1.7 coming out), and I don't really know how to code in Java.
Oracle has a whole section on their site for Java tutorials.

Watch TheNewBoston's java tutorials, till you can make a simple program without looking at notes. Then go back to the mod tutorials on youtube and you'll get it way faster.
