Mod Upload Problems...

I don't totally understand what's wrong. I want to upload a new program I made for Windows (i.e. an EXE file) but when I put it inside a zip file and upload it, it tells me "Invalid File." I understand why the site wouldn't want people uploading EXE files if that really is the problem, but can I post a download mirror link and still get experience? Is there a certain level or amount of experience I need to have before I can do that?
