i can't get mineforge or mod loader to work
it just crashed my game every time i try and use either of them

Try restarting with a new jar and mods folder.
First put modloader in the jar
Then load up minecraft make sure it works then close it.
Drag 1 mod in at a time into your mods folder.
Then after that if you want install optifine.
Doing this normally fixes my jars

If you have the META-INF folder in your minecraft.jar, delete it.
by saying that he will delete meta-inf install forge then realise there is another meta-inf from forge and delete that

That still doesnt help, that is even more useless as the first piece of information, give me the error message it sends you, if you don't see it when you crash it should be in your .minecraft, All i can say with what you have given me is you may not have deleted your Meta-Inf, but thats a long shot.
Can't help you if your not telling us any information, what's the error, what mods have you got in your mods folder? what version of mc are you using etc.
