There's a ton of how to's on youtube, i got one for modlaoder and forge, but it's just those, it's not with another mod....
First of all
Most mods on here will use whats called Modloader. (others will use forge)
Modloader can be downloaded here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/754 ... s-updated/
Then, you will need to find a mod. Just take a look around this site, there are tons of cool mods for you to try!
When you download those, go ahead and go download a program like 7Zip or Winrar.
Then, on your computer, head over to the start button and click run (or just in the search bar if youre on windows 7) and type in %appdata%
%appdata% in a location in your computer where things like the files of minecraft are stored.
Look for .minecraft and open it.
Inside .minecraft you will find a folder called bin.
Click on bin, and inside there will be a file called minecraft (may be called minecraft.java)
Right click on the minecraft file and go to "open with".
Now open it with winrar or 7zip, which ever you downloaded.
Inside the minecraft file there is a TON of stuff. Do not worry about this.
Find the folder META-INF and delete it. Then drag in the files from modloader (what you downloaded first), then drag in the files from your mod. After this, Close everything.
Now all you need to do is log into minecraft as normal and you will have installed a mod!
This was the modloader way, which is probably the most simple.
Good luck!

What do you mean by files? like the one extracted from winrar?
download magic launcher. then download any mod you want and if it needs forge download that to. then go to the start button. type in %appdata%. hit enter. that sshould bring up the roaming folder. there should be .minecraft. open up .minecraft. then go to the bin folder (and if theres not one there then make a folder and name it bin) and drag your mod in there as long as forge (if needed). then its easier if you drag .minecraft to your desktop.then open up magic launcher. go to setup. then add. there go to desktop^
.minecraft^ bin. then click the mod you want. then if the mod needs forge put that in there to. then start minecraft. this is a simple way using magic launcher.(google it to find it) then login and tada.
