I would reccomend not using online tutorials. They are all different styles, organized, and are uneasy to pick up. Just experiment.

Search Wuppy, he has a website that had some written and video tutorials on how to make mods. I taught myself how to code by just messing with stuff but I wouldn't say that would work for most people. I think just looking at some YouTube tutorials would be best unless you can find someone to personally teach you.
