Is it possible to keep mods for 2 versions?

I dont think he means backwards compatability like it was in 1.2.4/1.2.5 and 1.4.6/1.4.7, i think he means having the mods for multiple versions without constantly having to go to .minecraft and moving the mods to use a different version
