AmImhello fellower miners,
im having a thought but was wondering if it has been done, because i cant find exactly what im looking for.
i have seen the portal guns mod and dimensional door mod. but is there a mod where you can actually see inside the "portal" to where it is linked? like an actual door or window.
i would like a portal that you can go through, but actually see (or at least fake) something on the other side.
I am working on cube 2: hypercube, check it out if you want its in projects.
I also need something like gravitycraft to alter the gravity of the individual rooms.
Any ideas or help?

well, his would technically work. but i need a 1 x 1 portal, see through with no fancy stuff around it. butwant it to select random portal upon power or just change randomly. so i dont think his will work for me.
about all i can do is be patient, learn java, and learn from his mod. or find someone bored enough to make it for me. lol

would it be possible to have portals that link randomly to other portals. selects randomly ever time you enter or shifts ever 10 seconds or something?
Yes, this would be perfectly possible, using Math.random to select a random number that is linked to one of the currently open portals. Also, the original Portal gun mod allowed you to see through portals, but he is currently re-coding it and hasn't implemented them yet
well, i was thinking about having the portals turn on and off. to help reduce strain. should only have 1 going at a time. and its more of a single player idea... maybe mild multi 2-4.
if you havnt seen the movie, you gota check it out to get a feel for what im trying to do.
right now im using command blocks for teleporting the player between rooms, so i dont have actual doors yet. so you cant see the next room. i could go 20x20x20 grid... but i dont wanna build that much. plus i want the rooms to jumps around and not actually be fluid. its a weird concept... but think it will work in the end.
guess its time to study, if anyone wants to help let me know

It would be possible, but it would most likely put a lot of strain on the client. I would set up another camera on the other site of the portal (have it follow the entity, like w/ the player). Not sure if it would work, but it would be cool to try out
interesting. i can almost garuntee the map would fit in a single chunk because i can stack from bottom to sky limit. considering the loop factor i probably wouldnt have more than 3 x 3 x 3 grid of rooms.
i have never done any mods. where should i start or who should i talk to about this?

If you don't know Java, the official tutorials put out by Oracle are a great place to start.
Oh: And while others may direct you to the Youtuber 'thenewboston', I advise against his video course. In my opinion, he often jumps from A to B to D to V, then pops back to deal with C. By this time, you've forgotten what V was all about, so you know have to look online or go back to one of his previous videos.

Yes, it's possible, but it would be a difficult mod. You'd have to make sure the chunks on the far side of the portal are loaded on the client. Then you'd have to write a custom renderer for the blocks that probably used the OpenGL interface directly.
As this is based off of a game, It is quite obviously possible. Pretty much anything is possible with programming. Just takes time and effort
The original Portal gun mod did this. Not sure why it doesn't anymore, though.
Probably because the graphics of the portal when they showed what's on the other side made the 'window' go outside the texture, but still in the box or fame of the portal 'block'.
Now it's just the color of the sky.
