Would You Rather...
Hello!
If you play Bedrock, you know that the marketplace has add-ons you can get for free or purchase.
And Every Java person knows that mods ARE FREE AS HECK for Java!
BUUUUUUUUUUT!
Would you rather pay for an add-on for Bedrock, or would you rather get FREE ones for Java??
this may seem EASY AS HELL, but if you hear MY opinion it may change yours....
Ok, where to start??
When you pay for an add-on, it gives the creators a liiitle bit of money.
When you make models, animations, code, and SO MUCH MORE, that is HOURS OF WORK!!!!
I used BlockBench for a while and thought how hard of work it ended up being!
Add-on and mod creators both work EXTREMELY HARD!
BUT!
This gets back to the question.
Would you rather pay the creator for their hours of work, or would ya NOT CARE A DAM not pay for their hours?
Tricky??

Java. Because the creators still get paid if it's Modrinth/CurseForge (which is what I use)
OH!
Ok, that makes me feel a bit better for their work and our evil enjoyment.

yw?
lol
lol
On sites like modrinth or curseforge they do get paid for mod downloads or views or smth
idk that they did!?!?!
ty!

I generally only use free stuff. I make content; pretty much anything I would pay for I can make myself.
If they put stuff up for free, that's their decision. I'll appreciate their work, but I wouldn't have messed with it had it cost me something.
That being said, I don't really play Minecraft anymore.
Also, I heard that the Bedrock Marketplace steals stuff? Possibly? At least skins? Idk.

that is true; a lot of content is stolen.
there's a few scraps of actually original, good content, but very rarely. most of them are just profiting off of trends. if they put whatever is considered a trend among the MC playerbase (usually younger) in a thumbnail, it will get more clicks, more downloads, and more revenue for the creator (and micro$oft)

the marketplace doesnt ALWAYS steal stuff!
It gas b4 and I actually DID reconize a few things, but for the most part, it is mostly original, or at least, made by whom posted it on the marketplace.
I am also tryin to make mods/resource packs

I don’t play with mods or add-ons at all.
fair enough!
:D
I usta be scared to download anything- I heard some irl horror stories and my Mom once was hacked, but that was a LLOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooong time ago, and had nothing to do with MC or downoasds, just enough to scare me.
I wanted to get curseforge mods, but Idk im just real scared to download from the internet.....

This is a false comparison: one can both get free stuff for br (e.g. https://www.planetminecraft.com/mods/?mode=advanced&op1=128 ) and there are many ways to monetize java content.
What IS missing from java is a MS/Mj run site where the corporation takes a cut. [AFAIK, it's not an area I've any great interest in exploring]
Options withing java include ad-based link redirectors [NOT my preferred option], revenue sharing download sites (Modrinth & Curseforge likely being the best known), and a variety of 'Tip Jar' type sites (in which I include Patreon).
It should also be noted that not all monetization is ctually intended to generate income for the poster [My (verrry slowly) moving to Modrinth is based on the way the site is set up and the options for maintaining multiple versions rather than $$$ (I think my total monthly DLs – were all of them on Modrinth – would get me <$1… and that before taxes.)]
One very strong advantage of the java system is that one can try content at no cost (beyond bandwidth & electrcity).

REALLY!??!!
thanks!
thanks!
depends on the content itself.
i have spent about a year of my life working on a minecraft map, and even more with the other nine iterations of the same map concept.
also, i barely have enough to pay for rent. i do not charge a single dime for any of my struggles. why? i want them to be able to play it, and choose if they want to pay me, based off whether or not they enjoy my content. obviously, i don't actually have a profitable system set up yet; i'm just a minimum wage publix employee, but you get my point.
if the content has been devoted by the creator for an amount of time that would be comparable to something else in which pay would make sense, then i do believe that it being paid makes sense. however, for lower quality content that anyone on blockbench could make in five minutes, then i do not believe that it should cost $20.
my honest opinion that i threw together while feeding my dog. hope this helps.
