Two ages have passed since the signing of the Treaty of Centrus. May 1st, 202 ATC was another wondrous day of celebration, the great Alterian heroes and citizens joyously feasted alongside the Royal Family. Alteria’s streets flowed with blissful music, and every corner of the Capital was filled with light hearted, drunken people.

The King and Queen had ruled Alteria’s capital for over thirty years, and their lineage had ruled Alteria for over a millenia. The couple were blessed with two sons, Akakios and Lunior. As young boys, the pair had trained together incessantly on the Alterian grasslands. The sun drew the red glow of youth on their faces. As years past, the two had matured into handsome men, they developed an unconquerable brotherly love between them. Prince Akakios, the eldest, had become infatuated with a woman from the distant nation Sorda. Citizens had divided judgements about his new courtship. Some claimed that the royal family was destined to have a pure bloodline. Still, others welcomed the new family into the Kingdom. However, no one could deny Isveya's infallible charm and beauty.

With the smash of a wine bottle and cheering of civilians, the ship left Alteria’s harbor like it had dozens of times before. The ship and its crew intended to bring Akakios and his lady to Sorda. Wedding preparations needed tending to, and Isveya’s parents were too old to make the journey to Alteria. As fate would have it, Sorda’s harbor would not accept the ship, instead the depths of the sea claimed the vessel. Details are sparse, but Alterian sea merchants claimed a sinister band of dark, muted clouds spawned far out over the sea hours after the ship departed.

Pain of loss fell over the King and Queen like a thick shroud. Both had their own way of coping with their son’s death. The King became hardened to his advisers, taking none of their advice. He made no new policy, becoming increasingly isolated from the people and politics of Alteria. As for the Queen, one early morning her body was found on the floor of the palace kitchen, a small stained knife in hand, and a thin red slit across her neck.

Lunior gradually inherited his father’s responsibilities as king. The pressures of ruling Alteria kept his psyche distracted from the recent losses. The public had no faith in his ability to rule, as his family had recently proven mentally unstable. To make his disposition worse, nefarious advisers and politicians frequently overpowered him, instituting their corrupt agendas as law of the land. Civil unrest peaked, and a sect of reformers created the Order of Garthuda, striving to overthrow the monarchy and establish their ideal of order. The remaining who stayed loyal, not wanting to disrupt the ancient royal bloodline, created the Caucus of Mycaelis. Civil war broke out hastily, marking the First Great War.
