I sugest you leave that feild blank unless you are using a vpn like hamachi. I do not put anything there and mine works great.
Ask these questions first:
1) Do I have port forwarding done correct if needed?
2) Am I using the correct I.P. address? I know that sounds dumb, but I have seen it before. http://www.ipchicken.com/ or http://www.whatsmyip.org/
Let me know if it helps or need more help.

Hi! Thanks for your reply! It seems like my latest post were deleted, so i will post it again:
Now to answer your questions:
1. I don't honestly know what "port forwarding" is. I haven't ever tried to set up a server, and now i did:)
2. I tried to put the ip from ipchicken into my server file in the ip section, but it didn't work.
I will now post some data about the error:
My error log:
<Time>[INFO] Starting minecraft server version Beta 1.8.1
<Time>[INFO] Loading properties
<Time>[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on *:25565
<Time>[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
<Time>[WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind
<Time>[WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
And here's my server file:
#Minecraft server properties
#<date> CET <year>
level-name=OriGinalCraft
allow-nether=true
view-distance=10
spawn-monsters=true
online-mode=true
difficulty=2
gamemode=0
spawn-animals=true
max-players=10
server-ip=<ip from ipchicken>
pvp=true
level-seed=enabled
server-port=<ip from ipchicken>
allow-flight=false
white-list=false
