I need help

I recently made a server. I port forwarded and everything. It works fine for me... I asked my friend to join and he said that he couldent connect when I was online...I asked another friend and he said that the IP was too short.. Its 10.0.0.1, Again, it worked fine for me but not my friends, any help?
