Noob Guide
Hello guys. I have created modded Minecraft servers in the past with different mods, but I have never properly managed and run a server before. I have never configured groups, permissions, etc. Creating a server can be easy or hard, depending if you know what you are doing.
So I heard about the mod - Forge Essentials. For some reason I have never been able to get this mod properly working on a Forge server and I am not sure why. I tried finding YouTube videos of ForgeEssentials, but not many videos exist. There are also videos for Bukkit servers for a Essentials mod. I have commented on videos in the far past asking if someone could create some brand new video tutorials, but nobody has.
What I would like from a server?
I am looking to implement the basics on a small server of friends. I want to get the ForgeEssentials mod working. If anyone knows any other good mods or alternatives, that would also be great.
I am wanting to setup Groups and Permissions. Instead of Micro Managing everything, I am wanting new players to be automatically assigned. I am not sure how this all works.
I am interesting in WorldGuard. So I am wanting to have a small town, with a spawn. I am wanting people to have their own Plots with their own Permissions. I am wanting WorldGuard to protect these Plots. I'm wanting everything in the town, such as the roads, to be protected.
The wilderness, this will be free zone. PvP will be allowed. Mining will happening in the wilderness.
I am also wanting a economy. I am not sure how to setup player shops where the player owner does not have to always be there. Say Bob - he wants to sell items and receive money from them. George should be able to visit that person's shop, even when Bob is not there, buy items then George receives the money. I am not sure how to do this.
I would also like people to suggest what version of Minecraft would you recommend? I thought about just using a basic server for now. Even if mostly vanilla. Just so I can get everything else working smoothly. I need the foundation and core of the server before anything. Please help.

Hey Bradley, I believe you might be interested in a "plugin" such as PermissionsEx or LuckPerms
Inside their configs, you can properly assign a group to be default: true, so they are automatically assigned to said group.
This is how it kind of looks:

This is a issue I have. This is a Bukkit plugin, right? Many great mods seem to exist for say Forge - Forge mods. There are also some great Bukkit plugins too. What is the best way to have both Bukkit plugins and Forge mods? Or is it not possible. What server would you recommend?
I'm not too skilled with that, but I do believe that there is a way to find a happy balance between the two. At the least, you can get the forge mods you seek onto a server and attempt to make spigot/craftbukkit/paper plugins run on it. It's trying to find that happy medium where you might struggle.
