Improving on servers by
- Protecting redstone and spawning functionality at all costs
- Supporting a realistic and meaningful economy, impacted by players, not arbitrary server mechanics.Supported by real life financial strategists
- Bringing players together with a common goal of creating something big, beautiful, and impressive. The city of Quito is a growing metropolis that players earn the right to build in, while earning the right to make future decisions about the growth of the city
- Replacing the standard pay-to-win key crates & pre-made god items with an in-game key system & custom enchants that let you build your own god gear, reminiscent of Diablo II's rune system
Getting Started
Head to the Wild to mine materials, build farms, form a nomadic tribe, build mini games, set up temporary shops, etc. You're also welcome to build scale models of builds you hope to be incorporated into Quito. Do whatever you want. Builds here should be considered at risk as any of the resource worlds may be reset to allow for regeneration of available resources or Minecraft updates. All players will be notified well in-advance of this occurring, and it will only occur as necessary.
Moving to Quito
After you've accumulated 5 days of play time, you are eligible to bid on a plot of land in Quito. In order to bid, you must first have submitted a model of your proposed build along with a brief explanation of how you intend to use it.
Current land-owners on Quito vote on whether it will be approved or not. If your design is not approved, you can submit a new one. If you're struggling with your design, ask other another player to help!
Once approved, you can bid on an available plot. If you win the bid, you acquire the land and begin construction of your build.
You can use your build as you see fit - eg, as a base & storage, as a shop, for mini-games, or as a center of operations for an enterprise or organization.
Typically, plots are under contract, which means owners need to pay a "tax" to maintain ownership. Example: A tax of $1 in-game currency per day is due on a plot. You can pay the rent up through two months in advance. With 5 days remaining, you'll be notified each time you login. If your rent expires, we'll place the property on a temporary administrative hold and attempt to contact you before sending it to auction.
All players are allowed up to 1 plot by default. Additional allowances are awarded to ranked players. Each land owner is entitled to one vote per plot of land owned when considering a new builder's bid or weighing in on a public works project.
Government contracts may be awarded to trusted players for public-space constructions. Those players will be paid for their time and resources. Quito will never be reset or deleted. As long as we have players, we'll keep building and expanding!
Governance and Ranks
Upgrading your rank provides access to:[/p]
- Quality-of-life commands
- Earning more claimable land in the Wild
- VIP warps
- Additional Quito plots allowed and voting rights
- Online banking (install a bank sign in your home)
- Right to vote on and suggest server game mechanics and adjustments
Economy
Many server economies, and real-world economies for that matter, are deeply flawed because they rely on the arbitrary inflation of a fiat currency. A fiat currency is one issued by the government, wherein the cost for producing the currency is negligible and its value is self-referential, enforced simply by the threat of military or destructive economic intervention.
Simply, a dollar is equal to one dollar because "we say it is." If you're not skeptical of this, you should be.
Quito relies on what we call the Diamond Standard. New issuance of in-game currency can only happen in exchange for diamonds (and interest payments from banking). What’s more the value of diamonds to in-game currency will adjust to meet supply and demand.
This means that the value of your in-game currency is "real" and that your involvement in society and time spent impacts it. This provides for a much more realistic economy experience and a host of exciting investment strategies that you wouldn't find on other servers.
Participation in the economy is largely supported by player chest shops and trading.
Ranks
Our thoughts on ranks and real-life money are simple: Pay-to-win sucks. Freemium sucks. We're NOT going to charge you $15 for a pack of keys that you use to get some item, credit, or an advantage that makes you OP or you trade away to have more diamonds than everyone else. And then around every corner have a paywall forcing you to buy another pack of keys.
Instead, we offer subscription ranks, starting as low as $1/month. Ranks give you access to quality-of-life improvements, advanced features, and even privileges in weighing in on server mechanics and gameplay. You already get way more than vanilla for free and can get access to any of the best items by trading or collaborating with a ranked player, but ranks are for players that want to take it to the next level and support the server. To be blunt, the server has outside funding and will survive with or without player support, but paid subscriptions help to draw in serious, committed players and help the server to establish itself as a sustainable project.
PVP
The city of Quito is a place of culture and commerce. You're fully protected there.
But in the Wild, it's a different story. It's advised to new players to do /wild when you first join and establish a land claim right away. For all players, have a /home ready or be prepared to use /quito to escape quickly, if you don't want to fight. If you're killed by another player while in the Wild, you will lose any in-game currency you're carrying (bank money to be safe), and there's nothing to stop them from looting your dropped items. PVP is disabled by default on claimed lands in the Wild. If a player somehow kills you in your land claim, report them.
PVP protections can become temporarily disabled if the value of diamonds falls too low.
No griefing, claimed or unclaimed builds. No building within 50 blocks of another player's build without their permission.
