Recently my server had a DDoS attack. I rebooted my internet, looked at my router logs, and found their IP. Using that, I gathered all the information needed to locate or contact them. Turns out I was DDoS'ed by someone who works at http://www.akamai.com/. Shall I report this to the FBI? The punishment is a fine over $250,000, 10 years in jail, etc.

It's against the law to DDoS someone, so it only seems right that the person should be reported. However make sure you've plentiful evidence to back up your case, otherwise they may be able to do something in return (take it to court etc.) Just make sure that you have legitimate proof, then if I were you, I would report it.

Beware of the fact that someone might use a proxy when attacking things like servers, only report attacks if you are really, really sure.

Proxy's basically mask your real ip and use another one, could be anything essentially.

You should, As there was no reason for him/her to do this. They will learn their mistakes after they get their punishment as that is illegal.
