I'm willing to commit my time and money to take on the task of creating this server as best as I possibly can, but I want feedback to see if people would actually be interested in playing on this server. I’ve put a lot of thought into this server, and I would really appreciate an honest and respectful opinion. Please open your minds to this idea of mine; I think it could be something really great if you give it a fair chance.

--The Usual--
There are thousands of Faction PvP servers that would have you follow the same stories.

You join and find yourself just trying to get out into the wilderness when some guy who's decked out in the best gear cuts you down every time you try to leave; taking your only starter kit, and no way out.

Or maybe you get out into the wild, run for half an hour or so, so you must be far enough away to where no one will find you. You get yourself built up a bit for the day;everything seems to be going well so far, but it's time to log off for the night. The next morning, you log in surrounded by the rubble that was your little base, and all your valuables pillaged.

Either story line ends in a bad experience that shows itself to be that way relatively quickly. The people lucky enough to be the guy collecting your heads outside the spawn, or blowing up your little shack is someone who has been there for awhile, and chances are, they aren't going to care if you're new. So you're stuck at the bottom of the food chain with all the other new players.

--The Difference--
While every new player who joins is instantly cut out of the race to the top, the ones that are still in it are actually but a small handful. My plan is widen the racetrack, allowing new players a chance to survive with others, and create a factions that are larger than the norm.

This server will focus on the factions, rather than a single man.

These factions will represent the time when many kings fought over the control of lands, castles were constructed swiftly, and these kingdoms were their own government. A lucky bandit might pose a threat to some, but one lone brawler does not rule over them all, like in other servers. The factions that are lead well enough are the ones that will be on top; many, not a few.

--Faction Muscle and Conflict--
Factions should be able to show their power in many ways, be it on the battlefield, production, even in their creations. To me, the thought of obsidian cubes littering the landscape is so unappealing. Factions should be able to create impressive structures and bases. Creations that put newcomers in awe, and make them want to be a part of the greatness they see before their eyes. So to allow the creativity to flow, the damage delt to blocks by TNT, Creepers, fire, and other destructive forces will be replaced with a different system of besieging.

This is not to say that these things wont be able to kill, they will still do damage to players, but they just wont destroy blocks like normal. To breach your foes walls, you will need to create a cannon that fires all different types of rounds. Place an object in the cannon, and they will have different effects. Cobblestone might create a small blast, destroying 1-3 blocks, a fire charge will light the ground on fire where it lands, gravel will shoot in a spread, like a Norse God’s personal shotgun.

This doesn't mean obsidian is no longer valuable to your defense. Only the toughest of round could possibly break through it. Fire a single diamond, and like cobblestone hitting a wall of itself, the diamond will shatter a small hole. Place a diamond block in the barrel, and you will have a canister shot capable of going though layers and layers of any material, leaving large gaps for your troops to pour through.

‘What about protecting the creativity of the factions’? You might be asking. Well, that will still be there. Not only to protect the structures, but to protect the landscape, any block destroyed by a cannon will regenerate after a period of time; most likely after several minutes so your diamond block is worth the price of making the hole; whether it is worth the outcome of sending your men through the hole is up to you.

--Other Faction Protections--
The progress a faction has made should be something not so easily taken. Though the server will be 24/7, players are incapable of staying forever to protect what they have accomplished. Once more, a single man shall not be able to ransack an entire kingdom just because no one was there to welcome him at the door. This also goes for those that have the sense of a magpie, taking every shiny object they find as if they crafted it themselves, and clamming it to be their own because he rummaged around a chest that he doesn’t even lay claim to.

Chests will have some form of protection to prevent any without permission to gain access to the treasures the faction has obtained.

--Raiding, Conquering, and Looting--
Chests might be locked at first, but there are ways to open them. Some might mysteriously disappear to the world with their belongings locked away, but not forever. After a period of inactivity, all chests claimed in that inactive player’s name will be unlocked for anyone to take.

Don’t fret, thinking you will have to drive someone off the edge of the world before you can claim their possessions. Simply claim the territory their chest is in, and it will unlock for you.

To lose a war means you lose something along with it; land. Whatever might lay in that land will be lost as well. Many know that the Factions plugin runs off of a claiming system that uses power to determine how many chunks a faction can claim before being claimed themselves. Each player has their own power pool as to not so easily be the single entity that caused your faction to fall. If a player dies, a portion of the power in this pool is removed, lowering the overall power of the faction. If too many die, the faction will eventually lose enough power to where they have more chunks claimed than they have power. Enemy factions can then claim these excess chunks from the faction.

Power is also depleted due to inactivity. If a player doesn’t log on after a few days, their power will begin to drain. This prevents factions from holding onto players that never return, and using their power as a buffer to prevent being claimed, or to claim more land for themselves.

Power is returned from activity. Though I haven’t determined how much time will be between each intervale and how much power will be restored on each intervale, staying logged onto the server will slowly allow for your faction to restore the power you lost when you died.

Ultimately, if a faction is inactive for several weeks, the faction will be automatically removed along with all it’s claimed land.

--Internal Faction Game Play Effects--
The struggle between many different nations to be on the top could cause for very interesting game play, even if thieving from your newly joined faction will probably be a huge challenge.

The need to be more than the collective few of your buddies will be apparent. Other factions will feel more comfortable recruiting strangers thanks to the way some of the tools at their hands.

They will grow, so you will have to grow with them. But your feeling of comfort might be taken quickly. Those you recruit might not be so trustable. One might find themselves on the bad side of a rebellion as their own bud off into another nation; or even join a rival clan.

This however doesn’t mean a troll or spy can just join a faction and grief it’s base into the ground. Players proven to have done this will be punished, the punishment determined by me. Factions that are the target of an act of unruly griefing will attempt to have their base rolled back to where it was originally before being griefed.

Traitors will bloom if you’re not careful. Prevent it by keeping your morale high, and proving the faction they belong to is a force to be reconned with. Keep an open eye and ear for possible traitors, and prevent a rebellion before it cripples your faction, and possibly claims your title as it’s leader.

--Fair For All--
I hate finding out that a server gives out too much of a good thing to those that donate, or to everyone in general. The purpose of this server is for your faction to grow because of the players, not because of the server.

I would never give donators any kind of game breaking advantage over a normal player. Yes, donators should be given something to show off that they support the server. The difference is when donators are donating because they wan’t the server to last, or because they wan’t an advantage over the other guys. Having seen servers give donators the ability to fly, heal, feed, and spawn ridiculous kits with a simple command try to destroy what little I have just for a laugh means I know when to stop giving. Donators will be rewarded, but with things that don’t harm the outcome of the game.

This also goes for rewards from things like voting and arenas. For someone to get 15 diamonds for single vote means anyone could breach a fortress, or craft a set of diamond anything before they even get their hands dirty. Factions that work hard to gather resources will be the ones showing off wealth.

--Griefing--
As mentioned before, a blatant and obvious act of griefing of your own faction at the time you griefed will result in punishment. It’s unfair that one person can so easily destroy the hard work of so many.

This doesn’t mean a spy can’t help their true faction in getting the upper hand. They can always relay information spoken in the faction chat, that would otherwise be secret. Not only that, but I do not consider a small entry hole an act of griefing. It’s one thing to dismantle an entire base, it’s another to let your friend in so he can swing his sword.

I’m fine with you celebrating the conquest of an enemy by burying them in rubble and leaving a skeleton of their base as a memory of your victory.

--Final Comments--
Please let me know what you think of my idea, and any ways you think it might be improved. If you’re interested in playing on this server, pay attention to this post; if I receive enough positive feedback, I might just be making this a reality.

Thank you for your time.
